UK launches the new High Potential Individual visa

The UK Government's new immigration program aimed at attracting top global talent launched on May 30, 2022. The High Potential Individual (HPI) visa is designed to attract the best and brightest individuals from around the world to the UK.

The visa will enable foreign nationals to move to the UK for up to 3 years without a job offer or sponsorship if they have a degree-level qualification from a top overseas university from within the last 5 years. International universities on the list of eligible institutions include New York University (NYU), Harvard University, University of Toronto and the University of Hong Kong. To be eligible, applicants must also prove their knowledge of English and have sufficient personal savings.

The HPI visa cannot be extended, however holders may be eligible to switch to a different type of visa (such as the Skilled Worker visa).

Applicants must pay the application fee of £715 and the Healthcare surcharge, which is usually £624 per year payable in advance. It can take up to 3 weeks to receive a decision after submitting an application if applying from outside the UK.
